@strangerindireneed, I stopped the offer because I got plenty of abuse for it; also no one actually followed through and volunteered. Sorry.

Some of the people who were angry like twistup and joanie15 have said they give money freely with no strings attached - perhaps you can ask them?

goodnewsforyou   in reply to joanie15   on

goodnewsforyou

@joanie15. when Jesus died on the cross, there were strings attached - it was conditional in that we are supposed to do our part, repent and believe in him - ask your pastor what will happen if we do not.
why would you want money for free? why would you not be willing to help someone else in return for $50? It can be easy work. for instance, I have sorted donated clothing at a homeless organization. At the same place, I have helped cook breakfast.
Also the reason I did not accept as volunteering if you are volunteering for your church, is because it will be getting double credit. You mentioned that your church helped pay your bills. When you volunteered, they would have noted it and placed you at a higher priority to get financial help when they give out funds to help those in need.
If you feel people should get free money here on aidpage, as I asked Twistup, why not put your money where your mouth is, and give out $50 to needy people here?

@hear my cry God bless you for your encouragement. you mentioned that you are self conscious because of your teeth? Ask Schmidty here on aidpage for community dental centers near where you live. But frankly, if you have a good attitude, improve your job skills, work hard and are a caring person, it will overcome any problem of 'bad teeth'. I myself spent years in braces as a adult (and spent a lot of money), because I could not afford them as a teen. My bite has been corrected, but the problems of life remain the same - and are not solved by 'good teeth'.

I simply want to clear any misconceptions, that is why I am clarifying.

If a volunteer actually worked 5 hours helping a poor or needy person for 5 hours and it was legitimate (not baby-sitting their own grandkids etc), then I most certainly would keep my end of the deal - send a money order for $50 to whichever creditor they owe, with a letter saying to credit it to Jane Doe's account.

Those who know me, know that I keep my end of the deal.

But you dont know me, so how would you have assurance?

Because in your shoes, I would say, "If I cannot afford the bus fare to go to a shelter, let me find someone nearby to help, who is desperate, and not a friend/relative. Let me ask my pastor or local cop or even the mayor if they know whom I can help for 5 hours. laundry, cook, clean house etc.
Even if goodnewsforyou changes his mind, what have I lost? What is the worst that can happen? I will have helped someone in need and done good, and made a friend here on earth. Also, God will reward me here, and in heaven".

You, and others miss the point why I don't offer free $50 with no strings attached. If I made such an offer, there would be hundreds of people on aidpage asking for it. If my budget is $150, How would I pick (say) 3 people? Would I pick those with the most heart-rending stories? that would be stupid - they could be faking. More importantly, What about those with less heart-rending stories - are they less deserving? No. Should I pick the most religious person? No.

The only way to pick is to give the $50 to the person who will serve other people in need, for 5 hours.

1) their own attitude will change. They will be helping others, not selfishly focusing on their own little pity party. It requires getting off one's butt, contacting the organization or finding the opportunity, and going to work for 5 hours. They will dig themselves out of their own hole.

2) the people who are helped, will have been helped.

3) Even if the volunteer is not the most deserving of people (ex-felons etc) as long as they are verified to have worked 5 hours towards a legitimate help (Salvation Army etc.), what do I care?

@jesuswins, I had asked you to look for a way to serve poor people near you so you do not need to drive far away. "can you think of a different volunteering opportunity [near you]? perhaps you can contact your local police or mayor for ideas."
Had you even tried? I don't think this will work for you and as stated, I am not offering it any more to you.

"what about a chance of us getting scammed" and how would that happen, if *I* am the one giving money?

Please go out and vote. We need to keep Obama as president . We will be in even. More

Romney's speech today in Ohio, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news...
"I learned as the Governor of Massachusetts that the best achievements are shared achievements, that respect and goodwill go a long way and are usually returned in kind. That's how I will conduct myself as president," he said.

"I'll reach out to people on both sides of the aisleā€¦ do big things for the common good. I won't just represent one party, I'll represent one nation. I'll try to show the best of America when only the best will do."

Quietly, as if he couldn't quite believe it, he told the crowd that the president had "asked his supporters to vote for revenge". He paused without melodrama. "For revenge."

"Instead, I ask the American people to vote for love of country," he said.

And the crowd loved it and they loved Mitt, roaring back, and chanting "USA! USA! USA!"

"If there's anyone worried that the past four years are the best we can do; if there's anyone who fears that the America dream is fading; if there's anyone worried that better jobs and better pay cheques are things of the past, I have a clear and unequivocal message," he said.

"With the right leadership, America is coming roaring back."

Gone were the personal stories repeated so often that their original lustre was worn and dull. Instead, there was a glimpse of promise, in a quiet voice that, for once, seemed to come from the heart.

"We've known many long days, and short nights," he told the crowd, "and we are so very, very close. The door to a brighter future is there. It's open to us, waiting for us".

"I need your help. I need your vote. Walk with me. Walk together."

Walk together. What a message it is, and how late, how late it is that it has come"

who prescribed you antibiotics? doctor/dentist/yourself?

I asked a dentist about your problem, and was told, "go to a community dental clinic near where you live, tell them you are in pain and your swollen jaw and ask to be seen as an emergency. They will see you immediately, and will charge you on a sliding scale. That means based on your income". This will be the cheapest option for you.

@rj1needsu, sorry to hear of your tragic circumstance. As you may have seen from the posts here, If you are interested in volunteering 5 hours in exchange for $50 towards a bill to be paid, then look at my earlier posts. you must volunteer at a shelter or organization to help the poor or homeless or battered women and children for example, Salvation Army. Let me know if you are interested and able.

@Twistup, I read your latest post attacking me and I have to ask -
Why do you want me to stop something that is trying to help other people? ($50 in exchange for 5 hours of volunteering)

I repeat, you are helping no one here, so why are you on aidpage? Furthermore, it seems like you also have another account on aidpage but just got a new one to hide your other earlier threads.

Actually, *you* are the angry judgmental person. You also seem jealous that I am trying to help people here. I have done nothing ill to you but you are vomiting bile and bitterness over here.

You are criticizing me for attaching conditions to giving $50.
Your argument asking me to give money away freely, is illogical.

I never claimed to be doing the volunteer work or giving the donation checks that you are boasting about. You are criticizing me for attaching conditions to giving $50. I repeat, why not *you* put your money where your mouth is, and give lots of money to people here, especially jesuswins?

I challenge you to stand up to your claims. Talk is cheap. If you want people to give away money on aidpage, freely and without any conditions, you should start by giving jesuswins at least $50.

@jesuswins - I thought you said someone gave you a gas card. I also asked if you can find a way to volunteer to help poor people locally (not food bank).

I am telling you the following only so you will understand where I am coming from.

Two years ago, a woman and her 'husband' scammed us with a desperate story, she claimed she had been raped by a serial rapist and was now pregnant, no money to pay rent, only oatmeal in the house to feed her two kids. etc.
Like now, I did not want to just give them money and so we took them to sams club to buy food. We bought over $105 of groceries. What amazed me was, they picked out angus steaks, fancy grape tomatoes and other costly foods we never bought for ourselves.
We still wanted to help them and again I did not want to pay cash, so I asked the 'husband' to do small paint jobs around the house. He was stinking (probably of weed), did sloppy work which we ourselves had to redo all over.

In the end we spent $300 on them and somehow - perhaps because we did not give cash, they latched on to other people.

We later found out that they were professional scammers using a certain scam which I wont detail here because it will tempt others to try it out. They had scammed many people of thousands of $$$. They actually tried scamming someone across state lines - a CBS New York producer, no less. He assembled a team working with police and with a hidden camera had a sting operation - it came on '60 Minutes'. You can still see the video and details of the police case online.

Anyway to cut a long story short, they were arrested and she was sent to 7 years in federal prison, and he was sentenced to 3 years.

I was glad we only lost $300 but this underscored for me that 1) do not give cash, 2) get people to be less selfish by actually helping someone else in need.
3) pay towards their legitimate needs, not for wasteful luxuries.

We have been scammed other times too, but still give. We give carefully when it is random strangers on the internet like here on aidpage.

@twistup, I don't believe any of your claims. I repeat. let's see you put your money where your mouth is - there are so many needy people here on aidpage - why not give them the $50 to each of them? Why are you on aidpage if you are not helping?

Jesuswins herself needs help - why not help her with the large sum of money that you claim to give out? Yes, divert your supposedly huge giving to those organizations for one month and give her the money instead.

Why do you want me to close my offer? Perhaps someone who is sincere about volunteering and really needy will come along. Someone who wants their life to be changed. That is why I keep it open.
